More than everything else seeing her dressed cutely for you as a flower girl can be one of the best moments of your life. While you are out to choose the best flower girl dresses for your sister, there are certain things that you should take care of.

The first thing to do is forget about a floor length dress. The hippest bridesmaid dresses are knee length or even a bit shorter. (Yes, bridesmaids can wear mini dresses if they are not too mini, and they are done in good taste. Think on the beach, not in a cathedral.) Color is very important, as well. The most modern dresses are not done in the traditional pastels, but rather are in sophisticated striking colors such as deep purple, pewter, and navy.

12. It is a major treat to go with the bride when she is shopping for her wedding dress. She may even invite you to be involved in picking out the bridesmaid dresses. It is very important to help make sure the dresses are ordered and arrive in enough time for alterations.

Flower girls usually have their hair adorned with a decorative bow or ribbon. They may have their hair pulled up entirely or partially pulled back, leaving lovely full curls in the back. Either way, a bow or ribbon can be used to enhance the flower girl's attire. Find a bow or ribbon that matches the color and style of the flower girl dress if possible. If the dress has lace or beads, find a bow or ribbon that's made similar to the dress's material and design. A tiara may also be used for the flower girl's hair, depending on the type of look you want to achieve.

Something else to keep in mind for your reception is the type of music you will play. Will you hire a local band or will you play beach wedding music? And how about the design of your cake? There are many wonderful cake designers who can incorporate beach themes into their designs.

Shoes. If the bride agrees, opt for a pair of nude sandals or shoes neutral or muted in color. This way the first thing the eye sees will be you and not your shoes. Sometimes black looks beautiful with pink if it is a bolder color pink and sandals are great because regardless of the color shoe, the skin tone contrasts with the color of the sandal and helps to tone down the shoe if it is a brighter color.

It is not recommended for you to buy any mermaid wedding dress without trying one on first. Even if you are not trying the same one that you are planning to purchase on, it is important to at least try some mermaid styled dress on. This will give you a good idea of whether or not you really want to wear a mermaid styled wedding gown. Also keep in mind that certain designers, such as Maggie Sottero, recommend that you only buy direct because otherwise, you may not be getting an authentic wedding gown.
