Voir la source de A Healthy Start: How To Grow An Organic Garden

One of the smartest things you can do for you and your diet is to start an organic garden. You will have to put in some time and energy to be successful in this venture, however. Perhaps you are hesitating about where to begin.

Involve your children in gardening. Growing a garden is a great way to teach your children about nature while allowing you to have time to bond with them.

Preparing a plot for planting a perennial garden can be done quickly and without difficulty. Simply use a spade or small shovel to get under the grass or turf and flip it over. Then, using wood chips, cover the area to a depth of three or four inches. Allow for at least 10 days to pass, then plant the perennials that you just purchased.

You must consider how much light is available when starting your plants indoors. If the garden will receive little sunlight, find plants that can grow in medium or low-light environments. If you want to grow a plant which requires more light, you can invest in grow-lights.

Use an old laundry basket to gather your vegetables and fruits. A laundry basket will act as a strainer for your produce. Rinse your produce while it lays in the basket; any excess water strains off through the laundry basket holes.

Create a space perfect for any perennial garden with this easy method. You just need to use your garden spade for slicing underneath the turf, then flip it, and finally spread about three or four inch deep piles of wood chips. Let the area sit for a fortnight, then turn the earth and set up your new perennial bed.

While your freshly harvested fruits and vegetables are still in the basket, rinse them off and any excess water will run off through the laundry basket holes.

Work efficiently in your garden. If it takes you thirty minutes to find a needed tool, then you are doing something wrong. Keep your tools well-maintained and stored away in a designated place. That way you always know where they are and they are ready to use when you need them. Invest in a tool belt or wear pants that have lots of pockets.

Coffee grounds are a good addition to your soil. Coffee grounds have a lot of nutrients that plants can use. Plants need an adequate nitrogen source in order to thrive. Adding coffee grounds, chemical fertilizer, or diluted urea to your soil increases the soil's nitrogen content and will help to make your plants grow faster, taller and healthier.

Consider solving your weed problem without the use of toxic chemicals. You can place newspaper in several layers, and it will help control your weeds. Weeds require sunlight to grow. When you put newspaper on top of weeds they will suffocate because they are not getting enough light. Newspaper decompose quickly and integrate into the compost. You can add mulch on top for aesthetic reasons.

When you plant the seeds in containers, be sure the planting's depth is three times bigger than the seed. However, it is important to understand that some seeds require sunlight and should never be covered. Two common examples of this type of seed are ageratum and petunias. If you are not sure whether your seeds need to be exposed to sunlight, resources are usually provided with the seeds or can be found online.
