The following are a few of the advantages to a TMS which makes logistics management more efficient:

Big Savings and a Big Return on Investment

Getting a big return on investment (ROI) is important in the business world, and in the transportation industry, if you adopt the best TMS, a rewarding ROI will follow soon enough. This happens predominantly because of the savings that the appropriate transportation management system is able to find for you. For instance, some TMSs will assess all of their clients' invoices over the previous year, in addition to carrier contracts. After that they find which invoices were inaccurate, and will request refunds with the carrier for you so you get back those unnecessarily lost expenditures. After that the TMS company will keep track of all incorrectly invoiced shipments, look out for billing overcharges, unnecessary accessorials, and monitor contract compliance to assure discounts are properly implemented for the all major types of transportation (parcel, LTL, and TL). Along with those savings, a good transportation management system can provide increased control of expenses by negotiating carrier rates and confirming not only reasonable shipping rates, but to provide you with options. Though there are usually more ways a TMS can save cash, these savings strategies will lead to a significant ROI.

Automating some of your supply chain is also feasible, since your TMS will be saving information that can be viewed live. By doing this you lessen probability of data entry errors, save time and resources by doing less data entry, and refrain from making mistakes that may slow your logistics operations.

Real-Time Access to Information and Analysis

While you will find immediate benefits to implementing a TMS into your company's shipping operations, like enabling you and other associated groups to see where a shipment is at any moment, there are lasting gains, too. Of course the cost cutting measures and desired quick ROI is always great, but a TMS also gives you the ability to evaluate information long term. A good cloud-based transportation management system will store information about your shipping history, carriers, customers, etc., and provide you with some analysis of all that raw shipment information. This will allow you to see where improvements can be made. You will discover what carriers you're using most regularly, what rates were, if that carrier normally delivers on time, and more. The power to review this material can lead to important choices for your business, like maybe the most affordable provider doesn't mean it is the best for happy customers. The data and evaluation a TMS provides makes preserving your supply chain easier and more successful, which ends up in savings and a generous return on your investment.

Greater Shipment Visibility for You and the Customer

Tracking is among the greatest benefits that a TMS can provide, because in shipping, knowing where your freight is from pick-up, to delivery, and everywhere in-between is extremely valuable.
