Coast Guard is asking for the public to keep an eye out for a blue whale that is dragging about 400 feet of fishing line behind it as it is traveling along the Southern California coast.Acuson Ultrasonic Probe

"The whale was not acting right and he seemed a little tired and he was traveling extremely slow," TEKNOVA Transducersaid Capt. Coast Guard, reports Fox6 News.

Rescuers did attempt to try and help the whale on Friday afternoon when he was first spotted between Los Angeles Harbor and Catalina Island, but it proved too difficult with the size of the marine mammal and the sun setting, so they managed to attach a red orange buoy onto the lines the blue whale was dragging, in an attempt to make it easier to spot him the next day.

"We couldn't approach the whale safely, Peter Wallerstein of the Playa del Rey Marine Animal Rescue told the LA Times. Coast Guard is hoping that aircrafts or ships, like a whale watching ship, or people out boating may see the whale and trail him from a distance and then call the Coast Guard to let them know so they can help get the netting off of him. The coast guard cautions anyone of trying to take the line off themselves as the blue whale could be unpredictable.

Rescuers plan, once the blue whale is located to attempt again to free him from the line which will prove to be a monumental task. Rescuers are more knowledgeable of helping gray whales that are half the size of a blue whale that can reach up to 100 feet, but regardless will do what they can to free the blue whale.

According to National Geographic, a blue whales tongue can weigh as much as an elephant and their hearts, as much as an automobile.
