When capsules had matured, we harvested them and categorized ovules (seeds) as matured, undeveloped, eaten or unfertilized. To estimate variation in the proportion of seeds attacked by herbivores, we also calculated seed predation as damaged seeds/(damaged seeds + undamaged seeds) per capsule.
