The Palais de Tokyo is a building dedicated to modern and contemporary art. The east wing of the building, which belongs to the City of Paris, home to the modern art museum of the city of Paris while the West, which belongs to the State wing hosts since 2002 a center for contemporary art The Palais de Tokyo / Site de cr�ation contemporaine.

In 1999, Catherine Trautmann, Minister of Culture and Communication, decided to partially reopen the west wing of the building by planting a center for contemporary art, with a focus placed on the emerging scene, including French and European.
